About the work
Emergence was created in 2022 for the graduating students of the BA Contemporary Dance programme at the Hungarian Dance University,
and presented at the National Dance Theatre in Budapest.
The starting point for the work was the idea of emergence: that a larger pattern, behaviour or structure can arise from the interactions of many smaller parts,
without any single part directing the whole.
The process had something in common with 'flocking': individual responses accumulate until a new pattern becomes visible at the level of the whole group. No single dancer creates that new system, yet together they continuously produce and reshape it.
