About the work

LÉT(ra) was created together with director-choreographer Gábor Katona as an experiment in bringing two different theatrical languages into the same space: contemporary dance and spoken theatre. The work grew from Linn Skåber's texts — intimate monologues that move through different stages of growing up and the often unresolved experience of becoming an adult. Rather than illustrating these stories through movement, we used the words as points of departure.

Eight dancers and seven actors shared the stage, gradually developing a common performative language. A fragmented, mosaic-like dramaturgy allowed spoken text and movement to shift constantly in relation to one another: sometimes supporting each other, sometimes opening a different associative layer.

The title plays with the Hungarian words "lét" — 'existence' — and "létra" — 'ladder'. The ladder also became a physical and metaphorical structure within the work: something we construct, climb, dismantle and continuously reposition as we move through different stages of life.
