About the work
Through This Pouring Rain was created in 2023 for the Dance Arts Faculty in Rome.
The work started from Anne Clark’s 'Our Darkness' and its sense of alienation from the society around us.
The lyrics moves through a world in which people live alongside one another while violence,
private struggles and entire realities remain hidden behind walls.
This social landscape became the darker territory of the piece — a kind of continuous rain to move through.
The choreography travelled across different states of disconnection, tension and contact, staying within that atmosphere rather than trying to escape it too quickly.
As the work progressed, the tone began to shift. A calmer, more analogue section reset the space and created distance from the earlier intensity, before the piece gradually opened towards something warmer and more expansive.
By the end, the rain had passed. The final section carried a more hopeful quality — not erasing what came before, but letting light return to the space, like the first colours of a rainbow after a long storm..
