About the work
Sirius began with Árpád Tóth’s 1923 poem From Soul to Soul, and with his question that stayed at the centre of the creation:
“Is Sirius farther away from me, or one of my fellow human beings?”
The poem looks at the immense distance travelled by starlight and turns it into an image of human separation: the difficulty of truly reaching another person, even when they are physically close to us.
In the studio, we explored how this invisible distance could become physical. Bodies approach one another, search, withdraw and reconnect; proximity does not necessarily mean closeness, and separation does not necessarily mean the absence of a relationship.
The title gained another layer through Sirius itself. What appears to us as a single point of light is actually a binary star system: Sirius A and Sirius B, two stars gravitationally bound to one another, continuously orbiting a shared centre while remaining separate bodies.
Sirius therefore became both a symbol of distance and connection: something impossibly far away, but also something whose light can still reach us.
